The library is a space that is ever changing. Gone are the days of being shushed while in the library; creating, making, researching and developing are the name of the game. A Makerspace in its simplest definition is a place where students explore, create, tinker, play and imagine. In an elementary school, the library is the hub the school’s learning and there is no better place for a Makerspace. Not only are there books for reading, but there are toys for tinkering, programs for creating and technology for exploring. Makerspaces are places for collaboration, cooperation, creation; an environment that supports the 21st Century Learning skills that students need to be successful throughout their life. The WebReel collection below is for librarians, teachers and administrators that are wanting to explore what Makerspaces are all about. Most of the resources are for building and creating a Makerspace in the elementary library but they can be adapted to the regular classroom as well. Some things that you will find to explore are research supporting Makerspaces, how to start and build your own Makerspace, materials, tools and ideas for projects, as well as some apps and programs to use in your Makerspace. There are endless resources on the web to explore, this is a collection to get you started on your Makerspace journey.
