Schedule & Recordings – Angelman Syndrome Foundation This series of webinars is designed for parents and professionals working with students with Angelman Syndrome, but provides an essential resource for teachers instructing any students with intellectual disabilities. Caroline Musselwhite and others lead a series of free webinars on communication with core vocabulary, which provides students with communication impairments the language to express basic needs and emotions through symbols. The webinars also include information on instructional language, promoting familiarity and engagement with books, writing, and using communication devices and apps (in particular Proloquo2go).
Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities This website contains a variety of free texts from the general education curriculum, catering to all grade levels and are adapted with simplified text, pictures, and symbols so that they can be accessed by students with severe disabilities. Titles range from Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day to A Tale of Two Cities and The Great Gatsby and cross a variety of genres.
Tar Heel Reader Books for beginning readers of all ages Tar Heel Reader contains a variety of free, accessible books on many topics and at many levels. Students can also develop, write, and publish their own book on any topic. Tar Heel Reader includes a built-in screen reading feature for students who are blind or visually impaired, and is completely switch accessible. However, since anyone can publish a book, teachers should screen them before students begin reading!
