Instructional Resources Aligned to the 2015 SC CCR ELA Standards

Resources aligned to the 2015 ELA Standards will be removed or revised to align with the new standards in summer 2024.

Glossary of ELA Terms from the SC-ELA Standards 2015	The glossary provides educators insight into how one might approach the study of literary and literacy language.
K-English 4 Literacy Instructional Unit Guide	The purpose of these documents is to offer educators a suggested yearlong set of literacy units designed by educators that represents classrooms from around the state. The literacy units are the work of these educators with the intent of continuous revisions based on classroom application.
Literacy in the Content Areas	The purpose of this document is to support reading, writing, communicating, and critical thinking within and across disciplines are essential practices for students to build and convey knowledge, as well as cultivate a deep understanding of the world as described in the Profile of the SC Graduate.
Text Complexity Dimensions 2020	The purpose of this document is to explain the meaning of text complexity as well as to define the various categorical dimensions under which text complexity levels fall. Its purpose and intent is to assist teachers in evaluating a text for meaning and structure, readability, and diversity and equity.
Fundamentals of Reading, Writing, and Communication	The purpose of this document is to provide the field with key fundamental skills needed for reading, writing, and communication. The goal of this resource is to assist teachers in helping students to master the necessary skills needed to become effective readers, writers, and communicators.
Family-Friendly Guide to the Standards	This link connects to the Education Oversight Committee’s webpage, whose goal is to inform, educate, and empower parents and other business and community members about the SC standards and other educational policies, laws, and general expectations.
Assessment Resources	This link connects to the Development team’s resources for State Summative Assessment, where one can find various assessment supports for the SC state summative assessment.
Honors Resources	This link connects to resources that support Honors classes.
Karin Hess' Writing and Speaking Cognitive Rigor and Depth of Knowledge Matrix	This link provides support in understanding the Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels of questions in tests or class assignments. DOK can help to articulate how deeply students must understand the related content to complete the necessary tasks.
