Magnolia No longer operating Ma.Gnolia is an online social bookmarking community that offers open source bookmarking, public bookmark viewing, and website rating services for its users. It is a free, public service for saving links to websites. It is preferred by many of the web’s tech elites for two reasons: the site has a robust and easy-to-use API for accessing stored data; and it takes a snapshot when users create a bookmark, so even if the linked site disappears, Ma.gnolia enables users to access a cached version. Ma.Gnolia is based in San Francisco, C.A. - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/magnolia#sthash.wiNEyUtg.dpuf
Clip Board Cant Find.........Clipboard was founded by Gary William Flake in January 2011 with the simple goal of helping people save and share the parts of the Web that they care about. Since the Internet is more than two decades old, doesn't it seem strange that the typical way to save something online is to put it into an email or a document? We think so too, which is why we built an easy and powerful tool to help you. All of this may sound simple, but we think it's actually quite significant. We believe that someday soon everyone will be saving and organizing their online life in a way that is easy, fun and reflective of themselves. It is a world where everyone is highly engaged and active in saving their life experiences online. We are here for you and we are in this for the long haul. Our mission is to help you organize your online life. Please read more about us and our values at https://clipboard.com/about Stats on Clipboard: In close to 2 years before Clipboard was acquired in May 2013 140,000 people created 3 million clips. - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/clipboard#sthash.dhJY3Prt.dpuf
Stumpedia Stumpedia is a personalized social & real-time collaborative discovery tool that relies on human participation to index, organize, and review the world wide web. Stumpedia does not depend on automated bots, proprietary algorithms, or company insiders to make decisions on the relevance and ranking of search results. Stumpedia allows you to submit, rank, and personalize your own search results. The relevance of search results are unique to you and are determined by your social graph in the following order: you, your social network friends, friends-of-friends, your followers, and the overall community. A spammer who submits and ranks irrelevant results can be easily identified, blocked, and unfollowed to prevent your search results from being polluted. Users can personalize and customize search results by re-ranking, deleting, adding, and commenting on search results. This data is used to determine the relevancy of search results for the people in your social graph and vice versa. We enable users around the world to share their knowledge and interests with one another and provide an alternative to traditional search. Users are encouraged to create custom content pages for any possible search term in the world and submit links that will help people find relevant results and answers to their search requests. Links to social bookmarks, social profiles, blogs, new stories, authoriative articles, videos, images, and web pages are welcomed. Share your knowledge and interests with the world and help people search and surf the world wide web. Join us in our mission to democratize search and the media. They allow you to upvote individual sites. We literally let other people do the work for you and put it all in one place. Also we organize it in a much more user friendly way.
AntStorm Very similar, but closed. I think they had the same downfalls of stumpedia AntStorm is a new approach to social bookmarking and human-powered search. AntStorm lets users import their browser bookmarks and access, add to, and manage their bookmarks from any computer anytime anywhere. Users can annotate and share lists of their favorite bookmark links about specific topics as "trails", which are indexed and searchable on the AntStorm, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft search engines. Additionally, users can engage in a new form of social networking by collaborating with others who share their interests to suggest new links and maintain and enhance these trails using a novel, automated and democratic contribution and voting process. And finally, users can distribute 15% of the revenue generated by their trails to any of about 1.5 million charities of their choice. - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/antstorm#sthash.XDk9jljb.dpuf
Kippt Kippt is a collaborative bookmarking system for professional networks that lets employees teach and share with each other on a dedicated platform. When you collect something to Kippt, the page and the content will be searchable, organizable, readable on your devices and easily shared with other people. - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/kippt#sthash.4eukKeXI.dpuf
Like a Store Very similar but limited to only social media sites. Likeastore is the best way to save useful resources like GitHub repositories, code libraries, fonts, Dribbble shots or Stackoverflow questions. Organize your favorites and find the things you need with full-text search much faster while saving your time and money. - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/likeastore#sthash.gInF5p5n.dpuf
Pinboard Fee based and no social side. Pinboard. In is a social bookmarking site that offers an easy import/ export in del.icio.us format, Nightly database backups to S3, Cached copies of all bookmarks, a "to read" status for later viewing, private bookmarks and private tags, and simplified bulk editing - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/pinboard#sthash.BJSIt8Es.dpuf
Skewz Not Operating, not a threat. Skewz combines the functionality of social news and bookmarking sites like Digg and del.icio.us, but places a political spin on the stories and links submitted. After a news story is submitted, users are able to vote on which side of the liberal/conservative fence the article or link sits relative to their political views. Users can also rate their conservative/liberal leaning on a variety of issues in the political arena, and also see the political skew of the various sites that articles are submitted from. A number of services are beginning to pop up in anticipation of the 2008 General Election, with Microsoft launching a similar service called Blews and VoteOften.us also offering similar functionality. In June 11, 2008, Skewz launched its Election 2008 Media Insight Report, which uses the Company's technology and data analysis to find media bias trends in the political media. - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/skewz#sthash.NRZrbzVC.dpuf
AntStorm Article Poor design, no user rankings. Close
AntStorm Article Cant find the site
Another AntStorm Article They are like a poor mans version of our site. Very bad UI, ugly links or poor layouts for the social side of stuff. Groups create trails and then have to vote people in, rather than individual users creating webreels that are voted on. We create incentive to create. In their system you are a small piece of a bigger thing.
DropMark DropBox for bookmarks. Have to pay, poor social side.
PearlTrees Similar UI. No rankings, No community page, hard to understand, No commenting, or overview. Pearltrees is a place to organize your interests. This free service lets you organize, explore and share everything you like. Save web pages, files, photos or notes and organize them naturally. Explore amazing collections that relate to your interests and subscribe to their updates. Access your account anytime and share anything from your computer, mobile and tablet. - See more at: https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/pearltrees#sthash.pEXGs1Hz.dpuf
delicious Biggest player in the field. Ugly UI, poor social features, hard to use. Just missed
Google Bookmarks Very basic. Basic UI and limited social (although they did mess around with social stuff for a little.)
